The deal between Jay-Z and the NFL is creating a divide between those who support the mogul’s businesses move and those stand with Kapernicks movement to boycott the NFL. Critics question the rapper’s social justice initiative with the league, pointing out that team owners blacklisted the former quarterback for protesting. One person that recently spoke out on behalf of Kap was his attorney, Mark Geragos, who put Hov on blast in an ABC interview for choosing to team up with the NFL. Geragos believes that Jay’s move was “cold-blooded.”

Here’s what Kap’s attorney had to say:

“This deal between Jay-Z and the NFL crosses the intellectual picket line,” Geragos said, “I can confirm to you that the deal was already done prior to any conversation that [Kaepernick] had with Jay-Z and he certainly didn’t have any conversations with the NFL.”

In a press release after announcing the deal, Jay-Z cited the league’s global reach as a means to “inspire change across the country.”

Here’s what Jay-Z had to say:

“Roc Nation has shown that entertainment and enacting change are not mutually exclusive ideas ― instead, we unify them,” he said. “This partnership is an opportunity to strengthen the fabric of communities across America.”
