SNOHOMISH — Police on Friday said they believe a felon with a history of drug convictions was responsible for shooting a man in the groin early Wednesday near Snohomish.

Robert James Scott, 36, used a .44-caliber revolver to settle a score over an unpaid drug debt and possession of some high-end tire rims, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The victim, a Snohomish man, 30, told detectives Scott used a “Dirty Harry” revolver to shoot him in the crotch. The reference was to the weapon used by actor Clint Eastwood in his portrayal of Harry Callahan in the 1971 film, “Dirty Harry.”

After the shooting, the victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.

Scott reportedly had confronted the victim days before the shooting and threatened to “take care of him” if he didn’t pay the debt and return the allegedly stolen Lexus tire rims, police said.

Witnesses said Scott was joined in the attack by three or four masked men who reportedly had large, “Rambo”-style combat knives.
