Somebody should probably tell Kanye West that if he’s really trying to get back with his ex, Kim Kardashian, then this may not be the best way to do it.
Last night (2/22/22) fans waited for over two hours at the sold-out LoanDepot Park Stadium in Miami for Ye to perform highly anticipated tracks from his followup to last summer’s Donda. The appropriately named Donda 2 has Future as the executive producer and features the likes of Migos, The Game, Jack Harlow, Alicia Keys, Marilyn Manson, and more.
But it wasn’t just the music that has everyone talking.
During his performance of “Easy” with The Game, the crowd rapped along the Chi-Town legend as he barked the now-infamous line, “God saved me from that crash, just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass”. For weeks now Kanye has been belittling his ex’s new man on Instagram, only seemingly halting his onslaught after a private plea from Kim… that Kanye of course made public. The posts have since been deleted.
He brought up Kim K as well, though his tone was a bit softer when speaking about the mother of his kids. “Sci-fi” opens with a portion of the monologue from her recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, where she describes Ye as “the best rapper of all time”, and the “richest black man in America”.
Ye’s song with Jack Harlow, “Louis Bags”, begins with a sample of Vice President Kamala Harris’s viral reaction to winning the 2022 presidential election.
There are complaints all over the internet as to the disappointing sound quality of the venue, and some fans were spotted walking out during the more than two-hour delay. I think it’s fair to say though that, at this point, if you expect Kanye to be on time for a Kanye thing, well, you’re probably fooling yourself.
One particular high note was the surprise feature of Soulja Boy, who called out Ye after Donda dropped without his verse on it. Big Draco claimed that Yeezy never told him that he wouldn’t make the cut, but it seems like the proverbial hatchet has been buried. For now, at least.
The album, which can only be heard on Ye’s new $200 Stem Player device, still isn’t out (at the writing of this article). West claims that he’s already profited more than one million dollars from selling those units, so here’s to hoping that they actually get loaded with his music someday.
