The men involved in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery were trying to get out of their convictions for federal hate crimes.

The three men have been rejected and their conviction will remain affirmed for the crimes committed.
Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael and William “Roddy” Bryan had filed motions to set aside the jury’s guilty verdict. They did not expect for a federal judge to reject their motions, although there was more sufficient evidence that might have got them off of the 2020 murder of Ahmaud.
In February, the federal convictions, they were found guilty for killing Ahmaud based on his race and kidnapping.
There were a lot of social media posts that showed the defendants comparing black people to white people.
