PLAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) – The Stark County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a local school custodian after body was found in his van.

Deputies tell 19 Action News that the custodian left a dead body inside his van while working a shift at GlenOak High School.

The custodian also works for a funeral home. He told authorities that he picked up the body at Mercy Medical Center and when he went to drop it off at the funeral home no one was there to receive it so he took it with him to his second job at the school.

“No, no this is the first time I’ve heard anything like this,” said Rich Wasnak.

Rich Wasnak lives right behind Glen Oak High School, near where a body was left laying in a van all day last Wednesday.

“It’s not everyday that somebody takes a body to work and leaves it in van. No, no that’s definitely unusual situation that’s for sure. I’d like to know more of the story.”

So far neither the hospital, the Plain Township School District nor the Stark County Sheriff’s Department will identify the man or the funeral or the name of the deceased.

So far, no charges have been filed.
