Today is a great day for the college athletes of the world! For years this topic has been controversially discussed and debated! Well today the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Board of Governors. . . met at Emory University in Atlanta and voted unanimously to begin a process that would allow college athletes to “benefit from the use of their name|image|and likeness.” This is HUGE as a LOT of these college athletes felt like they were the ones using their talents. . .their bodies. . .likeness etc to bring in MILLIONS of dollars to these schools and essentially not seeing a dime. Coaches and Colleges profiting off of them with many student athletes struggling thru their education [despite having full ride scholarships but not being able to work to make extra money on the side].
A motion that has since be applauded from pro athletes like LeBron James [See his tweet below].
Ohio State University President and chairman of the NCAA Board [Michael Drake] said the following:
“We must embrace change to provide the best possible experience for college athletes”
“Additional flexibility in this area can and must continue to support college sports as a part of higher education”
These new codes are wanting to be set in place as early as 2021 according to The NCAA.
