A 23-year-old father is charged after allowing his 9-year-old daughter to drive.

Police were called to the parking lot of Headland’s State Park in Painesville Township on Sunday around 10:15 p.m. after a car hit a tree.

Deputies arrived on scene and found a purple 1998 Honda with extensive front end damage due to striking a large tree.

Police tell 19 Action News that Jaron McGee allowed his daughter to drive the car in the parking lot, with him in the passenger seat.

The child lost control of the car after achieving excessive speed, and drove directly into the large tree. The child was driven from the scene by other family members prior to Deputies arrival. Family members stated the child was not injured.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is still following up with the 9-year-old daughter at this time to check on her welfare. McGee was not injured in the crash.

McGee was arrested for and charged with child endangering and wrongful entrustment. McGee is also being held on one felony and one misdemeanor warrant out of other jurisdictions.
