Drake’s musical love affair with Anthony Mandler shows no signs of slowing down, with the Canadian rapper enlisting the director to shoot for him yet again, this time for his latest single “Miss Me” featuring Lil’ Wayne.
As usual, Mandler’s trademark moody lighting is on full display, but he’s also put in the effort to switch things up ever-s0-slightly with some fantastic slow-motion and rewind visual effects. However, many parts of the clip are too similar to Drake’s Mandler-directed video for “Over”, and it’s all getting a little tired now. Despite it’s unoriginality, “Miss Me” is still a job well done for the pair, but next time Drake is going to have to bring something a little fresher to the table.
Chartwise, “Miss Me” is currently #3 on both the R&B and Rap charts, and #49 on the Hot 100 (after originally debuting at #15). To date, Drake’s debut Thank Me Later has sold 970k in the US, and has been certified Platinum. Source
