ELYRIA, Ohio— Cameras were rolling inside the Elyria Police Station early Sunday morning, as a Cleveland man attacked a police officer.

Videotape obtained by Fox 8 News shows 29-year-old Anthony Wayne Thomas jumping the counter in the station’s booking area and hitting Officer Bill Witt with a flurry of punches.

Witt’s fellow officers in other sections of the station were unaware that he was in the fight of his life.

He would later report that during the struggle, Anthony Thomas was trying to grab his gun.

There were clues earlier in the night that Witt was going to have trouble with the 29-year-old.

Thomas’ girlfriend had called police and accused him of domestic violence, and then officers discovered that he was wanted on a warrant for contempt of court in connection with an OVI case. Read more
