Kelly Rowland delivered one of the most anticipated moments of the BET Awards last night when she hit the stage to perform her #1 single ‘Motivation’ for the first time ever. Trey Songz hit the stage first and took all of 30 seconds to come out of his shirt before performing ‘Love Faces’. Trey warned the audience that it wouldn’t be right if he didn’t get a little nasty before going into a performance of ‘The Usual”. He then announced that he needed a little ‘Motivation’ before Kelly sashayed on stage in a big floppy hat.

For the next three minutes, she owned the stage with her dancers as she performed a routine inspired by Janet Jackson’s I Get So Lonely‘. Personally, I think she killed it. Yes, she has a #1 record, but can she “perform it and bring it” was the questions I was asking prior to the Awards show. I’ve seen plenty of Kelly Rowland performances in the past and to be completely honest, they were forgettable. None of them truly made me think ‘she has star quality. She can stand on her own outside of a group’. Last night, erased all doubt that I may have had that she is well and deserving of becoming the next ‘IT’ girl. She commanded the stage from the moment she stepped out and she sounded and looked great. Girl Werk!

Kelly and Trey ended the performance all with great chemistry as she twerked, wound and came out of her top in front of him before they disappeared under the stage. Overall great and entertaining performance.
