Chicago Police continue to hunt for the punks who shot and killed a pregnant teenager Tuesday night.

The pregnant 17-year-old Chicago girl (Charinez Jefferson seen above) died after she was shot in the head but her baby boy survived the attack.

The boy remains in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Centre in Oak Lawn, Chicago, where his mother, Charinez Jefferson, was earlier pronounced dead.

She suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Charinez was not the intended target, her mother believes. The young mother also had a 16-month-old son.

Miss Jefferson’s mother, Debbie Jefferson, says the six-months pregnant teen was walking to the corner store and had bumped into a friend of her boyfriend when a man jumped out of a passing car and shot her.

She said: ‘I don’t believe she was the intended target. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.’

“She begged the shooter not to shoot her because she was pregnant, and now a 7-month-old baby is clinging onto his life,” said Pastor Tavis Grant with the Rainbow Push Coalition during a Wednesday evening vigil.

Charinez was shot at least three times in the heart, once in the foot and once in the back of the head.

Doctors at Advocate Christ managed to deliver the baby boy.

Detectives are investigating the horrible shooting, but no one is in custody.

UPDATE:

Her family “says” she wasn’t the intended target, but she was shot 9 times, the person that was with her was not hit, he ran.

The teen’s mom tells WGN:

Doctors have told her that the 6 month old has a 50-50 chance to survive. He still has swelling of the brain.

She says for a time they took him off life support (to see if he could breathe on his own). And he’s stronger than everyone thought. The family has put him back on life support.

What do you think of this scoop – is everything adding adding up to you in this story? What do you think happened? What should happen to the shooter? How can we stop this from happening again? Should witnesses on the scene speak to cops?
