CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) –

The Minority Business Development Agency in Washington, DC opened its newest business center, in Cleveland Thursday.

MBDA is a part of the U.S. Commerce Department, and has more than 40 centers around the country that assists minority-owned businesses with access to contracts, capital and opportunities. The new center in Cleveland will be operated by the Commission on Economic Inclusion.

Minority-owned businesses are on a significant upswing and are a proven source of job creation.

There are 5.8 million minority-owned businesses in the U.S. that contribute more than $1 trillion in gross receipts to the national economy, and provide six million jobs.
