Comedian Kevin Hart released his comedy film to a limited market September 9 scoring $2 million over the weekend.
The film, Laugh at My Pain, opened in 99 theaters in 25 markets this weekend, including cities such as Atlanta, Los Angeles and Dallas. Grossing such a sum is a huge accomplishment, especially for a comedy film produced for just $750,000.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Laugh at My Pain mostly featured footage from one of Hart’s comedy shows at the Nokia Theatre last February. It began with a visit to Hart’s hometown of Philadelphia, Pa. and ended with a spoofed clip of the movie, Reservoir Dogs.

Most of the promoting for the film was done by word-of-mouth and social media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook. Hart took to Twitter to share the news of the success of his film with his fans and followers who have shown him much support.

Kevin Hart also thanked everyone on Twitter, “I just got my Boxx office #’s 4 this weekend & I immediately started crying…..I dropped 2 my knees & thanked god 4 my blessings & my fans.”

As a limited release in select markets and only AMC theaters, Laugh at My Pain is doing very well for a comedy film. One could only imagine how well Hart would have done in more markets.

Laugh at My Pain will open in 58 more theaters starting next weekend.
