Twin sisters have been arrested for murder after their three young children were left alone to die in a fire in their home.

Akeevia Lajoseia Abner and Tekeevia Lajoseialan Abner, 18, from Atmore, Alabama were arrested on three counts of reckless murder.

3-year-old Aniyia Abner, 3-year-old Takia Abner and 22-month-old Michael perished in a fire which was apparently caused from leaving a stove unattended, according to a preliminary fire marshal report.

They also found a mattress inside the house blocked the door, so the children would have been unable to escape.

One child was found in a bedroom and the other two in a hallway, all three children unconscious.

The children were transported to Atmore Community Hospital, where each died a short time later.

The preliminary cause of death has been listed as smoke inhalation, but all the children suffered burns as well.

“They showed an extreme indifference to these children’s lives and created a grave risk of death to the children by leaving them home alone on November 2, 2011,” according to a press release from Escambia County (Ala.) District Attorney Steve Billy.

A judge set bond for the two mothers accused of murder at $300,000 each.

That is $100,000 for each count of murder in the deaths of the women’s children.

Funeral services for the children will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1712 M.L. King Avenue in Atmore.
