LORAIN, Ohio — A man is recovering from a broken arm Thursday night, after an alleged shovel smack-down with a neighbor.

Police said a Lorain man was using a snow blower on his East 33rd Street driveway when a woman offered to pay him $20 to do her driveway. Her boyfriend later came outside, upset about the cost.

“He was mad,” said the unidentified man. “She told [her boyfriend] she offered me $20 and he said, ‘Why are you charging me $20?’ I’m like, ‘I didn’t charge you anything, she offered it to me!'” The alleged victim said the man grabbed a shovel and swung several times, breaking his arm in three places.

The alleged victim described the situation, and said, “He run over here and commenced to swinging the shovel and trying to hit me in the head with it, so I started blocking it with my arms.”

Police were called, but the alleged victim did not file a police report until Tuesday.

One unidentified witness says the situation was out of control. “It wasn’t worth it. Now this man got a broke arm and can’t provide for his family and this man gotta worry about going to jail and his family. So both families is a victim of this!”

Police say they’ll charge the suspect with felony assault once they find him because he has been on the run since Tuesday.
