Kanye West is having film aspirations again.

According to The New York Observer, ’Ye is prepping a short film that would be shot in the Middle East. Sources told The Observer that Yeezy sent members of his team to meet with film companies and government officials in Middle East locations such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha and Qatar to explore possible grounds for production.

The idea, which isn’t quite clear at this point, must be good, as The Observer’s report goes on to state that several local municipal officials and film companies are engulfed in a bidding war for the rights to produce Kanye’s newest film brainchild and that his creative team will be in the region for a few weeks to ensure that the lifestyle is documented in an authentic fashion.

“His reps seemed genuinely enthusiastic about creating a piece which highlights the culture accurately,” one source told The Observer. “There’s a lot of preconceived notions and stereotypes about Emiratis and Qataris, which Westerners often play up. They discussed how Kanye is looking to bridge the cultural divide and break misconceptions.”

Of course, this report conjures memories of “Runaway,” the short conceptual film West dropped in 2010 to hype the release of his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.

That production featured explosions, supermodel Selita Ebanks and an entire flock of ballerinas.

Although details for Kanye’s new short film are still murky, the production will be casting actors from around the Middle East region soon. —Jakinder Singh
