Within five weeks of its official debut, Drake’s sophomore Take Care has officially gone platinum. The album debuted in November at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart after selling 631,000 copies, landing him the third best first-week sales of the year (after Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne). Now, five weeks later, the album has sold more than a million copies.
The album features collaborations with Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar, with production from Noah “40” Shebib, Boi-1da and T-Minus. Drake described the album as a full story, partially inspired by the track “Houstonatlantavegas” which appeared on his 2009 breakout mixtape So Far Gone. The album was also featured on our 5 Best Hip-Hop Albums of 2011 list, along with Watch the Throne, Self Made Vol. 1, Tha Carter IV and Section.80.
Drake announced official dates for his “Club Paradise” tour (in support of Take Care) beginning February 14th in Miami and ending on March 11th in San Diego. He will be joined by Hottest Breakthrough MC contenders Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky.
Next year Drake and Rick Ross plan to drop the mixtape Y.O.L.O (You Only Live Once). Stay tuned.
