This ‘nun’ appears to have picked up a bad habit after she was caught on surveillance camera stealing beer from a convenience store. The footage, posted on YouTube, offers little detail as to where and when the petty criminal was filmed, suggesting it could be a prankster trying out their Halloween costume a few weeks early. In the clip, a person in a habit and long, dark dress walks up to the row of refrigerators and takes a can from the shelf, before dropping it into a pocket.

Back in the habit: A ‘nun’ is caught heading straight for the beer fridges at a convenience store

On the take: The person, wearing a habit, reaches into the fridge and grabs a can

Guilty moment: The habit-wearing thief pauses for a moment and is caught face on to the camera

The ‘nun’ then shoplifts a bottle of water before grabbing another beer and taking off.

The video clip was posted to YouTube channel TheToshPoint on October 6 and has so far been viewed 8,000 times. It also featured on various news outlets, including News Channel 3 in Oklahoma.

Despite its dubious authenticity, it is not the first time that costumes have been used to enable illegal activity.

Last September,  a bungling criminal dressed as the cartoon character Gumby walked into a Southern California convenience store, claimed to have a gun and demanded money, but a skeptical clerk thwarted the would-be robber.

Surveillance video shows someone in a bulky, green costume entering 7-Eleven in Rancho Penasquitos but the store clerk thought it was a joke and ignored the life-size Claymation character.

Disguise: The nun pauses for a moment before grabbing a bottle of water to go with the beer already in her pocketOblivious: The thief seems unaware that a security camera is trained on her every move

In June 2011, an armed man and woman dressed as nuns robbed a Chicago bank in a heist that the FBI said looked like a scene from the movies.

The masked thieves made off with a bag full of money after they raided the bank in Palos Heights wearing nun masks and habits like those featured in the film ‘The Town’, said the FBI.

A year earlier, a man wearing a Darth Vader mask, long black cloak and – slightly out of character – camouflage combat trousers held up a bank in East Setauket, New York.

One customer thought the outfit was so funny that he started joking with the dark lord as he tried to pull off his heist.

In December 2009 , a 6ft man dressed as Santa, escaped with an undisclosed sum in Nashville, Tennessee, after claiming he needed the money because he had to pay his elves.

Oops, I did it again: The nun goes back for another beer before hightailing it out of the store
