Joey Crack said young talent like A$AP Rocky and French Montana are next in line to shine.

“I know A$AP is like the biggest, the next biggest, biggest star in hip-hop. You know, like Kanye [West] and Jay-Z and Eminem. Something like that nature. Frenchie is my brother. He got the hottest album coming out in the game right now. His album is crazy. I love guys like Joey BadassFred The Godson makes some hot music too. I love what the New York rappers got. In general I just like the whole climate of young rappers as far asKendrick Lamar, what he is bringing, and Don Trip out of Memphis.” (ESPN)

He also acknowleged hip-hop’s changing of the times from his days as a young emcee.

“It’s the passing of the torch right now. It was the Rakim era andKRS-One, [Melle] Mel, [LL] Cool J and then they passed it over to Nas, Jay-Z, Big Pun, DMXs, Fat Joes and now you see a turning of the tide. Finally we got some young rappers that are really, really making music with some substance and they’re their own future leaders. They’re not somebody that somebody had to put in the game or nurture them. They had to make a name for themselves.” (ESPN)

Recently, Rocky talked about what changes he has experienced since blowing up over the past year.

“I had a lot of close friends stab me in the back for their own greedy desires. I never saw that coming. I never thought my real n*ggas would be on some f*ck sh*t with me, and do wack sh*t. I’m a good n*gga, and a lot of people f*ck with me and then leave with these accusations trying to f*ck up what I worked hard for,” Rocky said in an interview. “For example, the whole thing with SpaceGhostPurrp. I didn’t say anything. He’s putting his foot in his mouth. People are starting to see he’s a racist and crazy and bipolar. I look on the Internet and every time we put something out he gets his Raider Klan people to be like, “You’re biting,” and it’s like, “You’re just mad I’m bigger than you.” His life revolves around hating on me, and this is a guy who used to live in my house. My mom took care of him. Before I had a record deal we were sharing dinner plates and sh*t.” (Complex)

Earlier this year, French Montana discussed bringing New York hip-hop back to the forefront.

“It’s been so long for a New York artist to really [have an impact] that it seems like there’s been a dark cloud over New York and the East Coast,” Montana said in an interview. “It’s a blessing that me and other East Coast artists are finally getting our shine again. Artists like Meek Mills(who is from Philadelphia), myself…everybody. We just need more support, that’s all. A song like ‘Shot Caller’ is East Coast…it even has the Lords of the Underground sample from “Funky Child.” But it’s important that we make sure we also make music for everybody else like I did with “Choppa Choppa Down.” (VIBE)
