Although buzz behind the LP has stirred since last fall, the Chicago rap veteran said fans should not get their hopes up.

Does G.O.O.D. Music really have a Cruel Winter album coming? Oh, yeah, nah, nah. I don’t think that’s happening. It was more of a rumor — cats been creating, but everybody’s been doing their solo album. So that’s what that is. (Vulture)

Just last month, G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean heated up online chatter about the LP’s existence.

“Man it’s so god—- cold in Cali, it’s a little ‘Cruel Winter’ in California right now,” Sean said jokingly. ‘Cruel Winter, you guys want Cruel Winter? Do you like Cruel Summer?’ he teased before adding, “All right, well, you might get it.” The Detroit MC has so far done his best to remain tight-lipped about the LP, but he noted that Q-Tip technically beat him to the punch this time: “Everybody always says I spilled the beans, everybody be like, ‘You be talking too much, you be telling [these] people too much’ — but it was Q-Tip who said it, right? And then I just said it again.” (MTV)

A few days prior, Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon revealed his interest in hopping on the compilation project.

“Um, you know, Kanye, them is my guys,” Rae said when asked if he will appear on Cruel Winter. “If he was to call me in to do some things, it’s gonna happen. You know what I mean? I’m a big fan of the movement. They’ve been doing a lot of great things, so, when they call a fella like me in, they know what I get ready to do. So Cruel Winter, Cruel Spring, [laughs], all that, put me down so I can throw my voice on it, you know what I mean?” (HHNM)

Back in October, the clique’s rap veteran Q-Tip accidentally spilled the beans on the star-studded follow-up to last year’s Cruel Summer.

“We’re just trying to do some next ‘ish, you know what I’m saying?,” Tip said in an interview when asked about working with Kanye West. “Look out for the Pusha T album, the Big Sean album’s coming up next. [Can you expect me on Cruel Winter?] Oh yeah, for sure. I can’t really, [laughs], let out too much details about it but yeah, I’ll be on it. Kanye had the plan for that, so look out.” (Hip Hop Since 1978)
