Randell McShepard has many distinctions.
He’s a member of the eight-person executive committee working to ensure Cuyahoga County’s smooth transition to an executive-council form of government. He’s the vice president of public affairs for RPM International Inc., the coatings and sealants conglomerate. He’s a trustee of his alma mater, Baldwin-Wallace College. He is the co-founder of PolicyBridge, an African-American public policy think tank.
To add to the impressive list, the Beachwood resident recently organized a family reunion in Cleveland. Not for his relatives, but for his wife Gail’s.
What is the Cleveland landmark you admire?
I recently took relatives on an African-American Heritage Tour of Cleveland as part of a family reunion. While on the tour, I saw for the first time the Jesse Owens statue at West 3rd and Lakeside.
I can’t recall ever noticing that statue, although I’ve walked that intersection dozens of times. I think this story is symbolic of how Clevelanders often miss the excellent attractions, rich history and great people that are right in front of us. If we all pay close attention, we can easily see why Cleveland is such an awesome city.
