Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon was recently arrested with her Hollywood exec hubby, Jim Toth. The two lovebirds were both arrested early on Friday–Toth, for weaving their Ford Fusion in and our of lanes while under the influence. And 37-year-old Reese was arrested on municipal charge of disorderly conduct because she refused to stay in the car while her hubby Jim failed his field sobriety test.
Reese’s conduct continued to get more and more disorderly, as she told the arresting officer, “You’re about to find out who I am!” The officer explained that he didn’t need to know her name. This must have agitated the A-list celeb because she continued, “You’re about to find out who I am … You are going to be on national news.” And she ain’t never lied, but did she have to pull the “Do you know who I am” card? That’s not the way to get out of trouble these days, unless you’re Lindsay Lohan. She didn’t stop there. Reese got out of the car and said, she was “a ‘US Citizen” and that she was allowed to “stand on American ground.”
Reese was released from jail after the Friday morning arrest and was in New York on Sunday night for the premiere of her new film, “Mud,” opening on April 26th. She posed for cameras on the red carpet but did not stop to talk to reporters. Convenient, no? I wonder what Reese’s role is in this new film? Could she be playing a badass, a local drunk? If so, this is the best way to prep for such a role. Life imitating art.
Reese has since released a statement, claiming to be embarrassed for what she said to her arresting officer:
“Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior.”
Do we accept Reese’s apology or should the officer apologize for not knowing who she is? Ha!
