Whether you’re gay, straight, a grandparent or foster parent, being a dad isn’t easy and President Obama knows this first hand. In his weekly Internet and radio address, the commander in chief honored father’s of every kind and shared his personal goals of being a better dad than his own father.

“I never really knew my father,” he said. “I was raised by two wonderful grandparents. But I still wish that I had a dad who was not only around, but involved, another role model.”

He added, “That’s why I try to be, for Michelle and my girls, what my father was not for my mother and me.”

Obama went on to encourage marriage, stronger child support laws, and members of local businesses, faith groups and communities to get more involved.

And, we are glad to know that our president is leading by example! To celebrate Father’s Day this year, the POTUS met with the students of the Becoming A Man (BAM) program, encourages African-American teenage boys to embrace the responsiblies of manhood and fatherhood, for a luncheon in the Oval Office.
