The family of the girlfriend killed by Jovan Belcher before turning the gun on himself, will have custody of the couple’s young daughter. The infant was only a few months old at the time of the incident. Jackson County Probate Commissioner Daniel Wheeler awarded Kassandra Perkins’ family member custody of 9-month-old Zoey Belcher  Thursday (June 20). The baby will live with Perkins cousin Sophie, in Texas. “Perkins will provide a more structured and stable approach to caring for the minor,” Judge Wheeler wrote in the decision.

Belcher’s mother, Cassandra Shepherd, fought Perkins for partial custody of her grandchild, but the baby has spent much of her time with the cousin following the shooing incident.

Financial distribution for the nearly $4 million inheritance up for grabs has been worked out also. Little Zoey will receive  over $1 million from the NFL’s bargaining agreement as well as upwards of $100,000 for the next four years, a number which will fluctuate every five years until she turns 18.

Last December Belcher murdered his girlfriend, before driving to the Kansas City Chiefs stadium where he played and taking his own life.
