Drake was a no-show at the 2013 BET Awards even thought he lead the pack with a total of 12 nominations.
The Young Money rapper recently reached out to BET to explain his absence and apologize for missing the big show.
“The BET Awards are always a good time and I’m sorry I could not be there to celebrate,” he said in a statement. “I’m in Toronto due to a family matter but I have a lot of gratitude for BET and the fans.”
We understand that family comes first so we’ll let Drizzy off the hook this time.
He added, “Getting 12 nominations and winning three awards just makes me want to work that much harder. I’ll be in the studio finishing Nothing Was the Same — I look forward to bringing it to the fans on Would You Like a Tour in September.”
Drake won awards for Video of the Year, Best Collaboration and Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award, tying with the night’s other top winner Kendrick Lamar.
Nothing Was the Same, the rapper’s third studio album, is due for a September 17th release.
