It’s an old drug with a new name, NBCNews.com reports. The drug, known as

“Molly,”

is the powder or crystal form of MDMA, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. MDMA is the pure form of an ingredient usually found in Ecstasy.

ABC News reports that Molly was to blame for the deaths of two young people at a New York City dance festival, known as Electric Zoo, over the weekend. In fact, officials were forced to end the event early due to concerns about drug use and the potential for more deaths or health issues among the concertgoers.

“The Department of Health did not want to see a re-occurrence,”

said New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

According to police, 20-year-old Olivia Rotondo and 23-year-old Jeffery Russ died after using Molly.

There are some serious side effects associated with the use of Molly.

“It raises your body temperature, your heart rate goes up, your blood pressure goes up, and so it does make you more prone to heat stroke,”

crime analyst Brad Garrett said, according to ABC News.
