Kanye West has filed a response to the civil lawsuit from a photographer claiming the rapper assaulted him at LAX Airport and caused him bodily harm.

According to new court documents obtained by TMZ, West is claiming self-defense, saying that he believes “his safety was in immediate danger” during the July 19 incident.

“[Kanye] responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defense,” the response, submitted by West’s attorney, reads.

The new dad was charged with criminal battery and attempted grand theft after he allegedly attacked videographer Daniel Ramos in July. If convicted, Kim Kardashian’s man can face up to a year in jail.

A video of the altercation posted on TMZ shows West accusing Ramos of trying to provoke him before he lunged at him. After the scuffle, West left the scene and an ambulance transported Ramos to the hospital.
