Last week we reported Joseph Patterson, the man who killed Minnesota Vikings football player Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son,was charged with second-degree murder , two counts of first-degree manslaughter, a felony charge of child abuse, and aggravated battery of an infant.

Unfortunately, Patterson has been released from jail. According to the Argus Leader, Patterson’s original bond of $1 million was reduced to $750,000 and since he only had to pay 10%, his family “put up $75,000 in cash.”

Patterson’s lawyer, Tim Rensch, said his client will work for his father while he awaits his court appearances and continues to support his client’s statement of not being guilty. He also supports Patterson’s claim that Tyrese Ruffin, Peterson’s son, died from accidentally choking. The medical examiner disputes this information by revealing Ruffin suffered from an abusive head injury and inflicted trauma.

On the contrary, South Dakota’s Lincoln County State attorney, Tom Wollman, stated Patterson is a threat to the community given his history of abuse and assault.  His record includes pleading guilty to domestic assault, violating a no-contact order, and a past girlfriend also states he threatened to kill her several times during their relationship and spanked her son so hard he had welts.

According to CBS News, Patterson’s pre-trial hearing will be  scheduled for Jan. 13, 2014. Let’s hope the prosecution can convincingly make their case.

Do you think Joseph Patterson should have been released on bond?
