melissa_burrowsAt Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Melissa K. Burrows is responsible for assisting faculty members when they are involved with or have concerns regarding sexual misconduct, discrimination, or a grievance against the university. She also facilitates request for disability accommodations as well assisting in overall diversity and inclusion efforts. Burrows began her tenure at CWRU as an Equal Opportunity and Diversity Specialist and was later promoted to manager before matriculating into her current role.

Having an undergraduate degree in sociology with a background in demographics and a strong foundation in urban planning and policy, Burrows interest in diversity work was ignited while pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Illinois in Chicago. A mentor, at the time, assisted her with beginning to understand the politics around “who is invited to sit at the table,” a notion examining who makes decisions and their understanding of the intricacies relative to the population they are serving.

Originally from Dayton, Burrows is a graduate of The Ohio State University and earned her doctorate in Urban Studies and Public Affairs at Cleveland State University. She also worked at KeyBank as their Diversity Measurements Manager and is president of her own company, Burrows Consulting. She’s been recognized by Pi Alpha Alpha and featured in Kaleidoscope Magazine’s 40/40 Club. Burrows and her husband Grady are the proud parents of Ian and Carson.
