The first trailer for Annie, starring our favorite orphan who believes in sunshine and the hope of tomorrow, is finally here!

Quvenzhane Wallis Jamie Foxx

In the newly-released clip, 10-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis proves why she was the perfect young actress for the lead role. She stars alongside Cameron Diaz, who transforms into infamous foster mom Ms. Hannigan, and Jamie Foxx, who plays billionaire New York mayoral candidate Benjamin Stacks.

In the Gluck-directed remake, Stacks, a variation of Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, uses Annie as a prop for political gain, but to his surprise, their bond grows stronger. According to the film’s synopsis, “Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.”

Playbill reports the original Annie opened in 1977 “at the Alvin Theatre and went on to win the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Cast Show Album and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book (Thomas Meehan) and Best Score (Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin). The show was one of the biggest Broadway musical hits of the 1970s, running for almost six years and playing 2,377 performances. The musical was previously filmed in 1982 and remade for ABC-TV in 1999.”

The updated version of the classic Broadway musical-turned-classic movie is produced by superstars Jay Z and Will Smith. It hits theaters on Christmas Day. Check out the first look below and tell us your thoughts in the comment section!
