Repercussions for Donald Sterling’s racist comments are hitting him right in the wallet as he’s being forced to sell the LA Clippers.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced during a press conference today that the league is not taking his comments about Black people and minorities lightly. Although Donald cannot formally be fired from the Clippers, the embattled team owner is being pushed out.
Following an investigation into an infamous recording, that features Donald telling his biracial girlfriend V.Stiviano that she’s not allowed to publicly associate with Black people (even though she herself is half-Black), the NBA commissioner shared that he’s prescribed a few punishments for the remarks.
Firstly, Adam has banned Donald from any and all NBA related business or events for the rest of his life. This means that he is not allowed to attend any NBA games or functions. Second, Adam also plans to petition the NBA’s Board of Governors to force Donald to sell the team. The NBA commissioner has vowed to do everything in his power to force Donald to sell the team.
In addition to that, Donald has been slapped with the maximum allowable fine of $2.5 million. Fittingly, the money from his payment will be used to benefit organizations that aim to promote diversity and inclusion. The lucky organizations will be chosen by the NBA Players Association.
Following their silent protest earlier this week, the LA Clippers have also spoken their piece in another way on the team’s official website by posting the picture below.
Should Donald successfully be forced to sell the LA Clippers, there’s chatter that Magic Johnson might be interested in picking up the team.
