According to Fox 8 News…

An Ashtabula teenager is facing charges after making a threat to the Nike Shoe Corporation.

According to police, a 17-year-old Lakeside High School student sent a message to Nike over Twitter that read:

“I’m shooting y’all store up tomorrow @ 2:30 @ nikeshoe.”

After reading the message, a Nike security team member contacted the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office. The company said it took the threat as credible and put three stores (including Aurora and Erie, Pennsylvania) on high alert for a potential shooter. Guards were placed at all three locations until the issue could be resolved. Nike added it wanted to press charges against the teen.

The Ashtabula Sheriff’s Office identified the teen through his twitter name. He was brought in for questioning.

The teen admitted to sending the threat to Nike using his cell phone. He said he was upset at Nike because he did not hear about a restock of shoes. He added he would never injure anyone, and that tweet was meant as a joke.

The teen was arrested on a felony inducing panic charge. His phone was turned over to police as evidence.
