Kanye West is almost as well-known for his style as he is his rapping prowess, and if this old interview is anything to go by, his status as a fashion icon was a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Way back in 2003 a 25-year-old ‘Ye spoke to the now-defunct Emixshow DJ Magazineabout his goals and ambitions. This is before his debut album The College Dropout was released, and before he became one of the biggest stars on the planet. As it turns out, his now-infamous car accident was not only a turning point in his life, but his sartorial journey:
“Yeah, if I had died that would have been real hectic. One conclusion I came to from everything while I was sittin’ there [in the hospital] seeing rappers and how they look on TV is that I am gonna be the best-dressed rapper.”
