NBC has decided to give a newcomer the chance to shine in its live version of “The Wiz,” and she will blow you away!

After casting big names like Queen Latifah as the Wiz and Mary J. Blige as Evillene–and now David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion–the network announced that it would bring some fresh talent to the central role.

NBC could have cast any younger actress with a great voice to play Dorothy, but it was revealed on The Today Show this morning that 18-year-old Shanice Williams had won the part! And she’s got the silver pumps to prove it.

Many had envisioned that the casting could go to Brandy or Keke Palmer; personally I pegged Anika Noni Rose as a great candidate to play Dorothy. After witnessing a piece of Shanice’s audition, though, it’s clear NBC made the right choice!

That’s all you get for now, but you can see more of Shanice easin’ on down the road as Dorothy when NBC airs The Wiz live on December 3.
