Do you remember Roberta Vinci? She was the little-known tennis player who beat Serena Williams three weeks ago in the U.S. Open. The defeat led to Serena losing in the semi-final, and was then unable to complete a calendar Grand Slam.

Well, what are sisters for if not avenging your defeats? According to ESPN, in the semi-final of the Wuhan Open, Williams defeated Vinci. Speaking after the match, Williams said the following:

“Definitely watching the match at the U.S. Open, I learned a lot from Serena. If I could, I’d give my win to Serena at the U.S. Open –unfortunately it doesn’t work like that.”

But the game was not without drama according to BET. At one point, Vinci yelled, “What the f***?” because Williams was taking too long between sets for her, to which Williams responded, “Excuse me?”

In the end, not only did Williams defeat Vinci and avenge Serena, she went on to win her 47th career title. Williams was playing Garbine Muguruza, who pulled out mid-match at 53 minutes, according to Yahoo Sports, due to exhaustion.

Both Williams and Mauguruza had tough semi-finals but despite Muguruza’s youthful age at 21, Williams at 35 used her experience going into the final to win it.

Congratulations Venus!
