Solange

Solange Knowles is taking a few cues from her big sis in the visuals department.

Riding high on the rave reviews for A Seat at the Table, her first album since 2012, Solange released two new videos for “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair” –  Co-directed by herself and her husband, Alan Ferguson.

In the video for the percussive “Cranes in the Sky,” Solange weaves together stunning vignettes with pops of colorful backdrops and wardrobe. Select stills from the video had been teased on Solange’s Instagram weeks before the album dropped, and know we finally have the finished product. Each look within the video is meant to celebrate the aesthetic of Black women in every shade – a prominent theme within the album.

Next up is “Don’t Touch My Hair,” which melds together neutral looks and choreography to accompany the deeply personal lyrics. In an interview on her Saint Heron website, Solange speaks on her mother’s profession as a hair stylist and critiques she’s received about her natural hair inspired the song. “There was a fashion editor of a major magazine who was white and for Halloween she wore an afro wig and had black face and called herself Solange. There was another magazine that composed celebrity-look-alikes, and they used a dog for me. They talked about my hair being like one of a dog, literally. So, hair just became so complex for me.” Check out the salvage below:
