Texting & Walking Deaths Rose To 6,000 In 2017 – blogged by @worldwidekeege ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 'NO TEXTING & DRIVING' signs are all over the highways and streets to remind you of the dangers of being distracted while driving. Soon we will be adding 'NO TEXTING & WALKING' to pedestrian walkways. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to the Governors Highway Safety Association report, the number of pedestrian deaths per year increased to 6,000. That is a 27% spike from 2007 to 2016, with the contrary perspective of a 14% decrease in all other kinds of traffic deaths. Levels have not been like this for over 25 years. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why are more pedestrians getting murdered you say? Because we would rather text & walk than pay attention to our surroundings while crossing the street. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s an age-old fact to look both ways before crossing but most people are flipping between apps or pressing send on a message before taking that first step out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Make sure you take a second to look up from your phone before your next time crossing the street. It may save your life.
