Mississippi Governor Signs Most Restrictive Abortion Bill into Law; Bans Abortions After 15 Weeks With No Exception for Rape or Incest – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Monday, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signed a new bill into law that would prohibit abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "I was proud to sign House Bill 1510 this afternoon. I am committed to making Mississippi the safest place in America for an unborn child, and this bill will help us achieve that goal," Bryant tweeted Monday, after signing the toughest abortion ban in the nation. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mississippi passed the nation’s most restrictive law back in March, which includes an attack on physicians who perform the procedure. However, despite the many restrictions, there are a few exceptions under the Gestational Age Act, including medical emergencies and ”severe fetal abnormality.” Unfortunately though, there are no exceptions for rape of incest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the wake of the bill, many have vowed to fight back, as most believe it to be an attack on women, and their heath care. In fact, just six hours after the bill was signed into law, state's lone abortion clinic sued, and a federal judge set a Tuesday morning hearing to consider blocking the restrictions, local news reports.
