Officer Carmen Messina Carmen has served with the Cleveland Division of Police, Third District for the past 3 years. He’s appreciative of the fact that he can protect and aid those in the community where he himself grew up. If Carmen had one safety tip to share to make us safer he’d say ,” Be aware of your surroundings”. People must be vigilent when they are by themselves or out with their children. Always be on the lookout for people watching or approaching you with questions in an unlikely situation to have conversation. His most nerve wracking day was his first day on the road. They had about 9 calls ,nothing too crazy but when you are brand new too it, it’s eye opening. It shows how much more you need to know and do beyond what you learned in the academy. This job is about creating bonds with the people you interact with on a daily basis. In Officer Messina’s spare time he plays semi professional baseball with the Canton Angels. He is also joining a motorcycle club, and is a proud owner of a Harley Davidson DYNA. He also helps with police recruitment training camps at our local recreation centers. Most people would be surprised to learn that Carmen is musically inclined. He plays the saxophone, drums and guitar and admits he was a band geek at Villa Angela St. Joseph HS.
Meet Firefighter Brian Arnold Brian is a 29 year veteran of the Cleveland Division of Fire and now is currently assigned to the scheduling unit at Fire Headquarters on E. 17th and Superior Avenues. Brian thoroughly enjoys his current role on the division because he feels like he has his finger of the pulse, knowing where everyone is scheduled throughout the city every day. Brian’s most memorable times on the job has been working in the recruitment Unit when the testing cycle starts. He likes meeting them on the upfront, following thru their training and shares their moment of pride when the badge is pinned to their chests at graduation. In his spare time, Brian likes to be active. He enjoys swimming, biking, hiking in the metroparks or just playing in the yard with his grandson. An avid traveler, Firefighter Arnold is a big fan of Royal Carribean cruises to any island destination.
