Kanye West and Michael Jordan will have something in common when it comes to the NBA with the first iterations of their basketball sneakers being banned by the league.
The debut of the Kanye’s basketball shoe hit a roadblock due to the reflective heel on the sneaker being deemed by the NBA “too distracting” thus earning a ban according to a league source who revealed the details to ESPN’s Nick DePaula.
As part of the league’s sneaker protocol, footwear has to be submitted to the league for approval before they can grace the courts and that has not happened yet according to ESPN’s report. A simple redesign swapping out the reflective heel could solve all of Kanye’s problems and earn the shoe the okay from the league.
This is a setback for MAGA Ye who was very excited to debut the sneaker on his Instagram account last week visibly showing what the league was concerned about with the shoes in the first place.
Welp, it looks like Kanye’s attempt to “jump over the Jumpman” and make “basketball sneakers great again” is on hold. According to the report adidas athletes Donovan Mitchell, Brandon Ingram, John Wall, Kelly Oubre Jr., and Nick Young were set to debut the kicks on the court this year. Hey, if he really wants to make a statement and buck the system, both he and adidas should tell them to wear the “banned YEEZYs,” and both he and the company will pay their fines.
That would a be a genius marketing strategy. But, he’s still canceled until further notice for continuing to rock that MAGA hat, though.
