From her days singing back-up for Erykah Badu to her current work with Phonte & Nicolay’s The Foreign Exchange project, Yahzarah’s been waiting for her turn to stand out front.

Her first two albums, Hear Me and Blackstar, were released in the early 2000s and featured lyrics penned by Phonte of Little Brother.  The two have worked closely together ever since and along with Phonte’s partner in The Foreign Exchange, Nicolay, the three have put together Yahzarah’s brand new album, The Ballad of Purple St. James, due out on May 4th.

“Why Dontcha Call Me No More,” produced by Phonte and Nicolay, is a very upbeat song, reminiscent of the territory that Solange dipped her feet into on her breakthrough album,  Sol Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams.  Definitely worth a listen!
