Rally Held In Colorado Demanding Justice For Elijah McClain

Elijah McClain — a 23 year old young black man lost his life at the hands of Aurora Police in Colorado on August 24th of 2019. We are coming up on a whole year since his death and his family is doing everything they can to make sure his death was not in vain and that they ultimately get justice! The family filed a lawsuit against Aurora Police and the medical team onsite stating: the Aurora police officers should have never stopped Elijah. . .never should have tackled and choked him. . .and that the paramedics never should have injected him with the sedative or the amount in which they did.

But before we get into their lawsuit. . .let me remind of what we do know from that tragic night. Elijah McClain did not commit a crime. Aurora Colorado police responded to a call about someone in the area “looking sketchy” wearing a ski mask and waving his arms. Elijah was simply walking home from a trip to the convenience store. Ultimately. . .10 officers arrived on the scene. Elijah was put in a choke hold and on top of that. . .the paramedics onsite were said to have given McClain a bigger than needed dose of the powerful sedative: Ketamine. Elijah McClain went into cardiac arrest while in route to the hospital and unfortunately died a few days later.

What you might also remember about Elijah. . .is his final words that night. Words that were so heartbreaking to read:

I can’t breathe. I have my ID right here. My name is Elijah McClain. That’s my house. I was just going home. I’m an introvert. I’m just different. That’s all. I’m so sorry. I have no gun. I don’t do that stuff. I don’t do any fighting. Why are you attacking me? I don’t even kill flies! I don’t eat meat! But I don’t judge people, I don’t judge people who do eat meat. Forgive me. All I was trying to do was become better. I will do it. I will do anything. Sacrifice my identity, I’ll do it. You all are phenomenal. You are beautiful and I love you. Try to forgive me. I’m a mood Gemini. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Ow, that really hurt. You are all very strong. Teamwork makes the dream work. Oh, I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to do that. I just can’t breathe correctly.
