In 1992 when the very first Mortal Kombat video game came out I was just 9 years old. It was making news because it was not only extremely violent, but also was the first mainstream game to display blood.
It was freaking awesome!
My mother wasn’t having it. She forbid my brother and I from playing the game, which simply meant that we just had to wait until the weekend when we were at our dad’s. (If you’re reading this mom, don’t worry, we strictly followed every other rule you ever laid out!)
Fast forward nearly 30 years and not only has Mortal Kombat been the bar when it comes to 1 v 1 fighting video games, but it’s also become it’s own universe, packed with TV shows, movies, 97 characters and 18 differently named actual video games.
The other day I had the thrill and honor to interview Joe Taslim, who played Sub-Zero in the upcoming film Mortal Kombat. This apparent reboot of the super popular franchise was extremely well done and I can’t wait til everyone can see it! Check it out!
