Cardi B has been as hot as fish grease since the debut of her 2018 smash hit Bodak Yellow. Sometimes when you’re that hot it’s impossible to get to every job, which is why she’s backed out of starring in a comedy film a week before they’re supposed to start production. Cardi’s camp says that the Bronx rapper wants to do the film, but has ‘overextended herself’ at the moment.
The movie, Assisted Living, has been in the works from Paramount Pictures since 2019. The film is reportedly about a low-level criminal, Cardi’s character, who attempts to avert authorities chasing her for a crime she didn’t commit by crashing at her grandmother’s retirement home. There are talks of Cardi using some movie magic to come off as an elderly woman as she tries to avoid the police. Something that, oddly enough, I’d really like to see.

With the rapper from NY pulling out so late in the game there could be legal ramifications down the line. The staff working on the project were recently told that the movie, at the bare minimum, has been put on hold. All signs right now indicate that they’ll try to proceed with filming later this year.
Cardi recently filled roles in 2019’s Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez, and the F&F series F9 with Tyrese Gibson, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez.
