The American Diabetes Association states that diabetes disproportionately affects Black adults with 18.7% of all African Americans in the U.S over 20 years of age being diagnosed with diabetes compared to 7.1% of non-Hispanic white Americans. Diabetes is a chronic health condition that impacts many parts of the body, including the feet via foot ulcers. If not treated properly, diabetic foot ulcers can lead to amputation.
