A Northeast Ohio man returned home last week to a shocking surprise: a 32-year-old stranger dead in his Akron house. Investigators arrived after the resident reported finding an unconscious man upstairs. The man told 911, “I didn’t know who it was—I just saw someone lying on the floor.”

Police identified the victim as Andrew Cassell of Uniontown. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest, and officers treated the scene as a homicide. They recovered a gun at the location.

Akron Police Lieutenant Michael Murphy called the case “very bizarre.” Investigators continue canvassing the neighborhood, hoping neighbors might have seen suspects or suspicious activity.

The homeowner appeared confused but unharmed. Detectives continue questioning him and processing potential evidence. They stress this kind of break-in-death combo remains rare in Akron.

Police urge residents to check security systems and report unknown visitors, especially at night. They also ask anyone with tips—no matter how small—to come forward. Authorities plan to share updates once they gather more information.
