Ohio Supreme Court REJECTS Mackenzie Shirilla’s Appeal…Again!
Well, the Ohio Supreme Court has declined to hear Mackenzie Shirilla’s latest appeal, leaving her murder convictions and 15 years to life sentence in place!
You may recall, Mackenzie was convicted back in 2023 in connection with the July 2022 crash that killed her boyfriend (Dominic Russo), and their friend (Davion Flanagan). Prosecutors argued the crash was intentional — this after surveillance footage and vehicle data showed the car reaching nearly 100 mph before hitting a building!
Many watched “The Crash,” (the Netflix documentary that came out in May) which reignited public discussion surrounding Mackenzie’s conviction. Her defense argued that a pre-existing medical condition may have caused her to “black out” behind the wheel. However, the courts didn’t reach the merits of that claim because her post-conviction filing was submitted a day past the legal deadline.
Mackenzie Shirilla remains incarcerated and is eligible for parole in 2037.
