One of hip-hop’s most recognizable voices is finally getting the biopic treatment. So, the highly anticipated Snoop Dogg Biopic is now official.
Universal Pictures has officially announced that “SNOOP,” the upcoming film based on the life and career of Snoop Dogg, is set to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2027. The movie will star Jonathan Daviss, best known for his role in Outer Banks, as the West Coast rap legend. Directing the project is Craig Brewer, whose previous work includes Hustle & Flow and Dolemite Is My Name, making this new Snoop Dogg film, a biopic, especially exciting for fans.
The film will be the first release from Death Row Pictures, Snoop Dogg’s production company, following its partnership with NBCUniversal. While the studio hasn’t revealed many details about the story, the movie is expected to follow Snoop’s journey from growing up in Long Beach, California, to becoming one of the most influential artists in hip-hop history. This Snoop Dogg-centered biopic is sure to draw in longtime admirers and new audiences alike.
Over the past three decades, Snoop Dogg has built a career that extends far beyond music. Since his breakout appearance on Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and the release of his classic debut album Doggystyle, he’s become a global entertainer through television, film, business ventures, sports commentary, and countless pop culture moments. Whether he’s making music, appearing in commercials, or mentoring the next generation of artists, Snoop has remained relevant across multiple generations. Now, after years in the spotlight, his legacy is being captured through the lens of a major Snoop Dogg Biopic.
Music biopics have continued to perform well at the box office, with movies like Straight Outta Compton, Elvis, and Bob Marley: One Love finding both commercial success and critical praise. Universal is hoping “SNOOP” can continue that momentum by telling the story behind one of rap’s most beloved and enduring figures, and the Snoop Dogg Biopic fits that trend perfectly.
With production continuing and more casting announcements expected in the coming months, fans will have to wait until August 6, 2027, to see Snoop Dogg’s story unfold on the big screen. It’s clear the hype surrounding the Snoop Dogg Biopic will only grow as the release date approaches.
