Akron McDonald's Hosts Coworkers' Surprise Wedding
McDonald’s Coworkers Turn Their Akron Restaurant Into a Wedding Venue
Jamie and George Callicoat took their workplace romance to another level by getting married inside the Akron McDonald’s where they work together.
The couple says the idea originally started as a joke with their district manager, but McDonald’s ultimately helped make the unusual wedding happen.
For the ceremony, the restaurant’s dining room was temporarily closed and transformed into a wedding space while the drive-thru remained open for customers.
McDonald’s reportedly provided decorations for the celebration, and the couple’s manager even allowed children attending the wedding to eat for free.
But despite tying the knot underneath the Golden Arches, Jamie and George decided against serving Big Macs, fries and McNuggets at their reception. Instead, their wedding menu included rigatoni, pulled pork and buffalo chicken dip.
They Even Helped Clean Up After Their Own Wedding
One of the funniest parts of the story came after the ceremony.
Instead of immediately leaving the restaurant as newlyweds, Jamie and George stayed behind to help their coworkers clean everything up.
They explained that they didn’t feel right leaving their coworkers with the entire mess. Even the best man reportedly joined the cleanup crew and helped sweep the restaurant floor.
Now THAT is employee loyalty.
Their Relationship Grew at McDonald’s
Jamie and George originally met through a mutual friend before eventually becoming coworkers at McDonald’s.
As they continued working together, their relationship became more serious, eventually leading to their engagement and their decision to hold the wedding at the restaurant that had become such an important part of their story.
After the wedding, the couple headed to Cedar Point for their honeymoon.
They also plan to return to the amusement park for future anniversaries, while joking that some of their biggest milestone anniversaries may require another trip back to McDonald’s.
As for married life, George says one of the things he loves about Jamie is that she doesn’t try to change him, while Jamie says she feels like the luckiest woman in the world.
From coworkers to newlyweds, these two really put a whole new meaning behind “I’m Lovin’ It.”
