Detroit Students Could Earn $$$ Just For Showing Up To School!

Detroit students could come up on some cash, just for having their behinds in that classroom! Yup, the Detroit Public Schools Community District is continuing it’s “Perfect Attendance Pays” program, which rewards students financially for maintaining strong attendance! High School students who have perfect attendance can earn $100 per week, while the program is now expanding to including middle school students in grades 6 thru 8, who can earn $50 per week!

The district has set aside $13.9 million from its $1.1 billion budget to support the program and help address chronic absenteeism. More than 12,000 high school students have already received money thru the program, showing just how much of an incentive financial rewards can be for students who consistently attend school!

The program has also sparked plenty of conversation among parents and on social media. Some parents love the idea of their child earning their own spending money, while others question whether paying students to attend school is the best way to encourage academic success.

Either way, Detroit students now have another reason to make it to class — their attendance could literally pay off!
